Ways to Give
During September, we are highlighting our Geoffroy’s Marmosets. These small primates have unique colorings including white cheeks, forehead, and throat. Ross Park Zoo is home to a family group consisting of Maxine, the mother, and her three sons, Finn, Quincy, and CJ. Both Quincy and CJ were born at the Ross Park Zoo.
Marmosets have incisor teeth that are specifically adapted to allow them to carve small holes in trees providing them access to the sap and gum of the trees which is an important part of their diet.
Marmosets are currently considered “Least Concern” which means they can still be found in their native habitats and their rate of population decline is not significant. While this is good news for now, their native habitat continues to experience wide spread destruction. If left unchecked, this could have a devastating impact on marmosets in the wild.
Another threat facing marmosets is the illegal pet trade. There’s no doubt, these little guys are adorable but they are NOT pets. In fact, marmosets are highly social and need to be a part of a social group.
